Deception Pass is located near the northern end of Puget Sound in Washington. George Vancouver named it Deception because it led him to believe Whidbey Island was actually a peninsula. This shawl was knit while watching the currents churn through that pass, and the waves in the lace reflect the waves in the water. Much like its namesake, this asymmetric shawl only looks complicated. The lace pattern is deceptively easy to memorize.
